Lesser-known local resources for the disabled

On Behalf of | Mar 28, 2023 | SSDI

There are programs in place in the United States that help to provide benefits for those who have disabilities that keep them from working. Many people who find themselves in this position begin looking into SSI and SSDI, which are disability-related benefits provided by the federal government. For example, they know that they may be able to get SSDI benefits through the Social Security Administration if they have a disability that is going to last for at least a year.

All of this certainly can be helpful, but it’s also important to remember that these are not the only programs or options that may be available to you if a disability is preventing you from working. There are some lesser-known resources on the local level that may be helpful for disabled adults and others that are available for disabled children. Below are a few examples that you may want to consider in Arizona.

Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP)

This program focuses on children who have developmental delays or disabilities. It starts as soon as they are born, and they are eligible for the program until they are over three years old. This is a very formative time for young children, as social support with their ability to learn is very critical for development.

Ability 360

The Ability 360 program has been around for more than 35 years. It focuses on helping those who have disabilities find ways to live independently. This opportunity can offer a level of freedom that may have previously been denied as a result of someone’s disability.

The Area Agency on Aging

On the other side of the spectrum from the Early Intervention Program is the Area Agency on Aging. This is a nonprofit organization. Its goal is to set up programs and services for those who are at least 60 years old, along with caregivers and adults who have long-term needs or disabilities. The organization plans these services, helps to fund them and coordinates them.

Moving forward

As you can see, there are a lot of options that you may want to explore. All of them can impact and improve life in various ways. Working with an experienced legal professional can help to ensure that you understand all of the legal options at your disposal and the steps you can take to get the benefits you need.
